November 17 - The Japanese internet gaming site, Famista, has decided to take the rising rate of crime into its own hands and do something about it. The company has created an innovative twist for its regular Japanese online slots and hopes to bring wanted criminals to justice this way.
Famista announced that it will replace the traditional online slot symbols that are generally seen on these types of games with the faces of Japan's most wanted criminals. So, after spinning the reels, players won't land the usual cherries and bar symbols - instead they will be faced with the mug shots of these hardened criminals.
Famista is quite proud of its efforts and has issued a statement outlining why it has decided to take corporate social responsibility one step further. "There are many internet sites that display photos of those on the wanted list," said a representative of this Japanese-based software company, "but they are not necessarily visited frequently. By mixing it with entertainment, we thought we can make some contribution to the police efforts."
So how exactly will these mug shot Japanese online slots work? Firstly, Famista realizes that in order to make the games as widely available as possible, it will need to run the games for free, and is exactly what the software company intends doing.
One of the most innovative features of these new games is that the games don't only stop with the mug shots on the spinning reels. If the player is lucky enough to hit the jackpot on the game, he or she is immediately presented with the 'information jackpot' - detailed data about criminal and how to contact the local police in order to report the criminals whereabouts.
The Japanese National Police Agency is still trying to get its head around this new idea and has not made any official comment about the new games, however, it's definitely kudos to Famista for its attempts to create a crime free country!
