April 17 - During the 1980's, the Street Fighter genre was a huge hit in
mainstream culture, following the creation of the game by two Japanese
developers, Matsumoto and Nishiyama. Players in gaming arcades around the world
were caught up in the excitement as they followed the adventures of characters
such as lone martial artist Ryu, who battles it out against his enemies on the
streets.
Cryptologic, no stranger to character revivals, if its successful
Marvel Comics series is anything to go by, has jumped on the Street Fighter
revival bandwagon with news that it is due to launch a SFII themed slot game.
Cryptologic, which managed to successfully negotiate a licensing agreement
with Street Fighter publisher, Capcom, said after the deal was reached: "Comic
book characters that have a story behind them and have storylines that can be
integrated and woven into slot machines in a gaming experience really do
translate well and players love the experience."
The new 25 pay line Cryptologic game will allow players to select a character
and battle it out with evil opponents. The new game will include awesome
features, such as bonus features, substitute symbols and the chance to multiply
each line bet a whopping 5000 times as a top bet.
The new slot game will be available at William Hill and InterCasino this
week, and will be gradually released to other Cryptologic sites in the near
future.
Cryptologic's Marketing and Product Development vice president, Justin Thouin
said: "Street Fighter really ignited the fighting game genre. I think the series
has sold more than 500,000 coin operated units and 24 million console games
worldwide, so this is a massive brand with huge global popularity and I think
it's going to be a phenomenal experience for players."
