May 8 - An award-winning new technology may be just the thing that casino
owners are looking for to revive the slot machines on their floors and offer
players an entirely new gaming experience.
3M Touch Systems has produced its Microtouch Capacitive Touch
Sense System with a touch interface that incorporates tactile feedback
technology to offer players an authentic gaming environment. Using the new
technology, players will be able to experience the sensation of pressing
traditional slot machine mechanical buttons, thereby enjoying an entire new
dimension of playing all their favorite games.
3M Touch Systems is selling new games with the technology in place to casinos,
although it is also offering them the option of installing the technology into
existing slot machines. As such, many casinos are taking advantage of this offer
and testing out the 'old' machines with the the updated technology in specially
designated areas on their casino floors. Customer response and gaming patterns
will eventually determine the purchase of future machines and software.
The Gaming Business Unit Manager for 3M Touch Systems, Scott Hagermoser said:
"By working with both casino operators and game manufacturers, 3M can supplement
tactile feedback into existing slot games, as well as future slot games."
The new 3M Touch systems product has already caught the attention of the
gambling industry. It was awarded a prize for "Top Ten Slot Floor Products for
2008" by the Casino Enterprise Management Magazine, and earned honorable mention
in Casino Journal's "Top Twenty Most Innovative Gaming Technology Products of
2007."
